SFA Threads

SFA Threads

The SFA’s digital traceability platform for certified cashmere

What is SFA Threads?

SFA Threads is the Sustainable Fibre Alliance’s digital supply chain traceability platform, introduced as part of the updated SFA Chain of Custody Standard (v1.1). It enables end-to-end visibility of SFA-certified cashmere as it moves through the supply chain — from raw fibre harvested on the rangeland to finished products.

SFA Threads doesn’t replace Chain of Custody certification — it enhances it, by providing a tamper-proof digital record of every batch, transaction, and inventory movement across the supply chain.

Why does it matter?

SFA Threads was developed to:

  • Trace certified fibre end-to-end — tracking fibre and fibre products through every stage of the supply chain, from producers to brands
  • Strengthen certification integrity — reducing the risk of uncertified fibre being sold as SFA-certified
  • Streamline operations — replacing manual processes, duplicate paperwork, and fragmented record-keeping with a single digital system
  • Ensure data integrity — providing transparent, tamper-proof audit trails for all supply chain transactions

Who needs to use SFA Threads?

Any organisation involved in the certified cashmere supply chain that takes legal ownership of SFA-certified products must use SFA Threads. This includes:

  • Producers and Producer Organisations — recording certified raw fibre harvests
  • Primary Processors — recording processing activity and fibre inventory
  • Merchants, Manufacturers, and Brands — recording transactions and processing
  • Retailers — recording purchases of certified product
  • Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) — reviewing and approving batch and transaction records

If you are unsure whether your organisation needs to register, contact us at support@sustainablefibre.org.
