HOW ARE REVIEWS CONDUCTED
Any standards review will include two rounds of open consultation, where the public has the opportunity to provide their feedback on the content and structure of our standards. This ensures we have input from individuals regardless of their location, ethnicity, perspective or sector. We are particularly interested to hear from under-represented stakeholders that will be impacted by our work and are always looking for experts and practitioners in the subject areas of animal welfare (in particular humane slaughter and injurious procedures), decent work and rangeland management.
The SFA is committed to a process of continuous improvement. The ongoing development and review of our standard system is conducted according to our Standard Setting Procedure, which makes reference to the ISEAL Code of Good Practice for Standard Setting – both of which are available to view below or on our Resources page.

SFA Standard Setting Procedure v3.0
This Procedure is founded on the credibility principles of improvement, relevance, rigour, engagement, transparency and engagement. Reviews of our standard system are open to the public and start with consulting with a wide range of stakeholders and subject experts to ensure that we strike the right balance between sustainability objectives and feasible implementation in the field. We make particular effort to ensure that herding communities and other marginalised groups from Mongolia and China have their say through targeted in-person workshops and interviews.
